Calvin (Cal) Kost

Cal shelving canned food items in our pantry.

Mr. Calvin (Cal) Kost. Cal has been volunteering at Arlington Charities for over 20 years and is the current president of the board. You can see Cal volunteering at AC almost every single day. He says he “gets a lot of satisfaction in seeing down on their luck people being helped.” “There is a good feeling you get seeing a family with a cart” proclaims Cal wistfully. Cal enjoys sorting food and conducting inventory in the pantry. He is thrilled that Arlington Charities collects leftover inventory from local grocery stores, saying “it would go to waste if AC didn’t collect it.” When not volunteering, Cal is an avid Ranger’s Baseball fan. For 25 years, Cal has gone to Arizona for 2-3 weeks to help with spring training. He was also an usher at American Airlines for 37 years before retiring. Volunteering at Arlington Charities is something that Cal would wholeheartedly recommend to others. He asserts that volunteering “gives a whole new insight into the kind of need there is” and that “he can’t imagine not doing anything.” We are very lucky to have volunteers like Cal.

If you are a volunteer and would like to be featured on “Meet a Volunteer Monday,” please send us a message. Alternatively if you are inspired by Cal’s story and would like to volunteer yourself, you can sign up at https://www.arlingtoncharities.org/volunteer.
